Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lymphatic Therapy?
Gentle and effective full-body decongestion
Lymphatic Therapy offers a gentle and effective way to help our lymphatic system stay healthy and balanced. Our lymphatic system plays a crucial role in cleansing our body of toxins and waste, while also delivering essential nutrients to our cells. It supports our immune system by transporting white blood cells to fight off harmful invaders. When our lymphatic system is functioning well, we are more likely to experience overall health and well-being. Engaging in Lymphatic Therapy can boost our immune health, speed up recovery from illness or surgery, and leave us feeling peaceful and rejuvenated.

At Santa Barbara Lymphatics we understand that the lymphatic system is intimately connected to the entire body and all of its systems. That is why each lymphatic session incorporates some degree of Craniosacral Therapy and we often suggest supplementing your Lymphatic Therapy with Craniosacral sessions as well.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light touch manual therapy that works with the
body’s self-correcting mechanism to affect multiple structural and physiological
systems in attaining greater health and well being. As the name implies, it
involves mobilizing restrictions within the cranium and the sacrum. However,
because of the anatomical and physiological connections, it is really a whole body
approach. It is practiced by various healthcare professionals including physical
therapists. - By Mariann Sisco PT, CST-D

What is MLD and how is
it different from using the LymphStar?
MLD is short form for 'manual lymphatic drainage'. MLD is performed entirely by hand, using very light, rhythmic, and precise movements to stimulate lymph flow. It focuses on moving lymph fluid toward the lymph nodes and improving circulation.

Using the LymphStar in conjunction with MLD elevates the overall effectiveness of the treatment by enhancing detoxification and healing by improving lymphatic circulation. Many people report that the frequency of the LymphStar also helps them to relax more deeply.
What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system functions as the body's internal sanitation team, playing a crucial role in maintaining optimal health and vitality. Comprising a complex network of vessels, fluid, nodes, and organs, this system collaborates to transport immune cells throughout the body to combat infections. Lymph nodes serve as essential filters, eliminating harmful substances and waste to ensure the smooth operation of the system. Unlike other bodily systems, the lymphatic system lacks its own pump and relies on physical movement to facilitate fluid circulation. However, various factors such as stress, sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet, medications, and more can impede its function, resulting in toxin accumulation and a compromised immune response. Prioritizing the well-being of your lymphatic system is crucial for sustaining overall health and wellness.
How does Lymphatic Therapy assist your lymphatic system?
Here's what you need to know
Lymphatic Therapy works to clear stagnant lymph fluid, boosting overall health, strengthening the immune system, and revving up energy levels. Not only does it leave you feeling great, but it also switches off the stress response (fight or flight) and switches on the relaxation mode (rest and healing) while you're in session. While some may call it lymphatic drainage massage, it's not your typical massage – the touch is incredibly gentle, imagine gliding your body through calm water. That delicate touch is all it takes to get that lymph fluid moving smoothly.
What should I expect after a treatment?
Each client’s reactions vary. Most everyone initially feels relaxed and experiences a greater sense of wellbeing. Sometimes there can be a detoxifying effect that happens later: headache, tiredness, body aches, loose bowels. It is imperative to listen to and follow what your body needs after treatment including allowing yourslelf to move more slowly, to rest and most important of which is drinking plenty of high quality water.
